The following is a talk I gave at my Grandma Jarvis's Funeral in February 2011.  I finally found it and many have asked me for a copy of it so here it is.

All because two people fell in Love....  We've heard this phrase many times.  Yet I realized how true these words are Grandma and Grandpa have a Love that is eternal.  True love binds us all together.
It is because of love we are all here today.
I want to speak for a moment about a Love that is transcending, a love that causes us to reach higher, it aspires us to be better and it endureth forever.
After a long wonderful discourse by Mormon on the subject of charity, in the seventh chapter of Moroni tells us that this highest of Christian virtues is more accurately labeled, "the pure love of Christ."
Mormon taught, and Charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puvved up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, hopeth all things, and endureth all things.
Wherefore my beloved brethern, if ye have not charity ye are nothing, for charity never faileth.  Wherfore cleave unto charity which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail.
But Charity never faileth.  Wherefore cleave unto charity which is the Pure love of Christ, and whosoever is found possesed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.
Wherfore my beloved brethern, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart that you may be filled with his love, which he have bestowed, upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ that ye may become like him, for we shall see him as he is: that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure.
True Charity, the absoultley pure, perfect love of Christ, has really been known only once in this world in the form of Christ himself, the living son of the living God.
Mormon explicitly taught, that this Love, this ability, capacity, and reciprocation we all so want is a gift.  It is "bestowed"  that is Mormon's word.  It does not come without effort, and it doesn't come without patience, but, like Salvation itself, in the end it is a gift, given by God to the "true followers" of his son Jesus Christ."
The Solutions to life's problems are always gospel solutions.  Not are only answers found in Christ, but so is the power, the gift the bestowal, the miracle of Giving and Receiving those answers.  In these matters of Love no doctrine could be more encouraging than that.
Love makes us happy, even joyful.  Our Heavenly Father loves each of us so much he sent his perfect son to show us by his perfect example how we can become like hi is and how we can one day dwell once more in the presence of our Loving Heavenly Father.
Before we lived on this earth we lived in the presence of God.  There we learned, developed talents, gained testimonies, and we progressed as far as we could go.
Our Heavenly Father knew we could not progress beyond a certain pint unless we left him for a time.  He wanted us to develop the Godlike qualities he has.  to do this we needed to leave our premortal home to be tested and to gain experience.  Our spirits needed to be clothed with physical bodies.  We would need to leave our Physical bodies ate death and reunite with them in the resurrection.  Then we would receive immortal bodies like that of our Heavenly Father, If we passed our test"  Then, we would receive the fulness of joy our Heavenly Father received.
The great plan of happiness"(Alma 42:8) presented by our Heavenly Father in the premortal council is designed "to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man and is founded on three basic doctrines- the creation of the earth' the fall of Adam and Eve, and all human kind; and the atonement of Jesus Christ.  Elder Bruce R McConke described these as the "three pillars of Eternity"
The doctrine of the Fall provides and additional key to understanding our earthly existence.  The Proclamation of the Family teaches we came to earth to "obtain a physical body. and gain earthy experience to progress towards perfection.  Bir into a family was teh way God chose to send his spirit children to earth.
Marriage and family relationships are central means he has prepared to achieve his purposes.
Family relationships are fundamental to the Lords plan for our eternal destiny.
President Ezra Taft Benson observed that the "overarching message" of righteous Book of Mormon Fathers was the "Great Plan of the Living God"  - the fall, rebirth, atonement, resurrection, judgement, and eternal life. The "Great Plan" is a family plan which not only provides children with covenants and ordinances necessary for exaltation, but it creates a nurturing environment where children learn the important ways of
life.
It is in our families where we best learn who we are, where we are going and why we are here on this earth,. We learn Obedience to God,.  We also learn from birth about the Tempple.  Everything we are taught at home points to the temple.
Temples are central to Gods plan for his Children.  When we are reaching for the temple we are never lost.
Elder Stevenson shared this story:
I remember a warm, sunny afternoon when spring was trying to nudge its way through a long winter in Cache Valley, Utah.  My father, whose Saturdays were always filled with chores for his grandsons, stopped by our home with an offer to " go for a ride"  in Grandpa's truck, our four- and six year old sons scurried into the back jump seat, and I joined my father in the front.  Our drive took us through the streets of downtown Logan, which wrap around the Logan Temple, prominently situated on a hill, centered beautifully in the city.  As we moved further away from the city, we turned from paved, busy streets to seldom-used dirt roads,, where we crossed old bridges and weaved though trees far into the country.  WwE were far from any other traffic and all alone.
Realizing his grandsons were in a place they had not been before, my father stopped the truck.  "Do you think we are lost?"  he asked the wide-eyed boys as they gazed out the windshield across the valley.  Followed by a moment of silent assessment came the profound reply of a young child.  "Look", he said, pointing his finger.  "Grandpa, you are never lost when you can see the temple."  Our eyes turned, focusing with his, seeing the sun glistening off the spires of the spires of the Logan Temple."
Years ago I was helping Grandma pack her things in preparation for their move to Heber.
Grandma asked me to clean out a drawer in a white side table.  As I did I found a small button pin that had a black and white picture of the  Mesa Temple on it. I asked my Grandma if I could keep it and she said that as long as I promised to take care of it as it had belonged to her mother.
Many times since then as I have come across this pin I have looked at it and it was as if time has stood still and I could feel a tie, a bond, that linked teh past present and future together.
That is what the Temple does for us.  Binds us together for all Eternity.
Is it by chance then our Heavenly Father sent us to earth to families?  I think not.
It is in loving families where we learn best how our Father in Heaven loves us.  We learn how to love him too, we learn of his eternal plan of happiness.  And if we as families look to the Temple we can be constantly reminded of our Heavenly Home, of the Sacrifice of his Son, Jesus Christ, and of the sacrifice of those who have gone on before us.
Always know this, Grandma and Grandpa love you.  They are proud of each of you.  They want you to know the Plan of Salvation is real, Families are Forever, Death is not the end, just the next step in our progression,  Have faith, Love on Another, Be good, Remember who you are, and always remember we love you and are waiting here for you.
